The internet involvement in social revolution in kenya

Internet was first introduced in Kenya in1993.But after being introduced, it did not pick up immediately, I guess that time we were just ignorant or we didn’t know the much it could do.

In 1995 it started picking up, and was mostly used by government and entrepreneurs in running matters that concerned the government and businesses. Also, as time passed it became the easiest medium that people could use in communicating.

As internet continued penetrating in the Kenyan society, there was a group of people who were reluctant to embrace it. These are the people we call laggards, who take more time to adapt to change.Taking long to adapt definitely made them to be left behind.

One of the reason why they were reluctant, is because they felt internet was making we Kenyans loose our culture. For example we really appreciated the need of face to face interaction. But after the inception of internet, that was a thing of the past.

Some of the social revolution that have emerged, after the inception of internet, are; People creating awareness on social issues through social media platform,e.g malaria and polio campaign. Unlike in the past where people used to go house to house to do that.

Another social revolution we have seen over the years since 1995,is that more people are now on social media, engaging in different activities such as doing business, and advertising through different media platform

The final social revolution we are going to talk about, though not the last one on the list is relationship. In the past people used to make e.g. friendship in churches, schools, but now through social media platform people are able to make friends without actually meeting each other.

With the discussed above social revolution, we can now understand why the people we call laggards are now on board acknowledging that internet is important. I encourage many of us to continue learning and using internet, because there are definitely goods things we can pick from the internet.
